winners and losers
Among Sensex stocks, Wipro, M&M, L&T and Tata Motors were the biggest gainers, rising 2-5 per cent. Maruti, Infosys, Nestle India and IndusInd Bank also ended in the green, while Power Grid, SBI, Reliance Industries, NTPC and Axis Bank ended in the red.

stocks in the news
SpiceJet share price rose over 11 per cent after CMD Ajay Singh and Busy Bee Airways Private Limited jointly submitted a bid for the troubled GoFirst airline.

KPI Green Energy shares closed 5% higher after the company’s subsidiary won a 1.5MW solar power project.

Paytm shares rose 5% after falling 19% since last Friday.

Performance by sector
Nifty Auto surged 2.2% led by India Tube Investment, M&M, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor. Meanwhile, Nifty IT, Pharma, Realty and Healthcare rose over 1%.

global market
Global markets rose for a third straight day on Friday, helped by Japan’s Nikkei index hitting a 34-year high and strength on Wall Street.

The possibility of a June rate cut contributed to the positive sentiment due to a sharp decline in U.S. retail sales.

This optimism spread across Asia and into Europe, where the STOXX 600 index hit its highest since January 2022.

oil and rupee
Oil prices fell as the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) forecast of a slowdown in demand outweighed support for geopolitical tensions and optimism about the possibility of a faster-than-expected interest rate cut from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Brent crude futures traded at $82.33 per barrel. U.S. WTI futures traded at $77.70. The rupee closed slightly stronger at 83.0150 against the US dollar.
