The highly anticipated first-person shooter Shrapnel is released. Now available in Early Access Starting today at 4 PM ET via the Epic Games Store, the game launches on servers for the first time for anyone who has purchased one of the following: Extraction Pack Access Key (starting at $20).
we posted Our Shard Preview After playing an exclusive session last week, today we were impressed with this little nugget of blockchain-based extraction shooter. But there’s another potentially compelling reason to take the plunge this weekend. Here’s your chance to win a promised $100,000 worth of SHRAP tokens.
Shrapnel developer Neon Machine revealed that it had stashed around $3 million worth of SHRAP (based on the token’s market value, $0.22 at the time of writing, per CoinGecko) to encourage play during the PC game’s early access launch. For the first time, $100,000 worth of prize money is being offered during the three-day SHRAPNEL Training Exercise 1 (STX) event.
that much avalanche The game is Cryptocurrency compensation provided You can be in the top 1,000 in a leaderboard competition determined by your ranking at the end of the event. Servers will be online from 4 PM to midnight EST on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
First place will receive $10,000 worth of SHRAP, runner-up will receive $5,000, and third place will receive $2,500. The amount continues to decrease, with the bottom 500 finishers each taking home $50 in Avalanche-based tokens.
How does it work? Leaderboard placement will be determined by how much Sigma players can earn and successfully extract during the three-day event. Sigma is the glowing green substance that oozes from meteors that hit the game map, and each impact point will spark a frenzy in players looking to power up their deployments.
Don Norbury, Director of Shrapnel Studio, said: decryptionDuring the session, GG wants to see how Sigma-based matchups affect players’ tactics during matches. Will they grab what they can and gradually take out the first extraction vessel, with the goal of amassing a significant amount of records over time? Or will you wait for a later ship to store more for each game?
“Would someone get the sigma initially and then do an initial extract every time and try to slice it apart every session?” Norbury said. “Other players might try to get 200 or 300 Sigma each session to quickly climb the leaderboard. This is all part of the player strategy, so I’m really curious to see how it plays out.”
A competitive first-person shooter with cryptocurrency rewards? Norbury said he is optimistic that the combination of studios will foster exciting gameplay.
“We want to increase the tension. We want them to have a sense that the stakes are increasing,” he explained. “Because if you can get to the extraction point and get out, you suddenly move up the leaderboard and put yourself in a position to get into the prize pool. I want to see how those things change player behavior.”
