Siemens halts train deliveries to Germany due to defects, Bild reports.
BERLIN (Reuters) – German conglomerate Siemens has halted deliveries of new high-speed ICE trains to rail operator Deutsche Bahn due to quality problems with some parts, the Bild daily newspaper reported on Thursday.
Siemens discovered serious problems with welding on some of the train’s floor and side panels, the newspaper reported, adding that experts had warned it could pose a safety risk.
Siemens could not immediately comment to Reuters, but Bild quoted a spokeswoman as saying all trains already delivered were unaffected and safe.
“Siemens Mobility is in close contact with Deutsche Bahn and is working hard to resolve the issue,” a Bild spokesperson said, adding that the company had not compromised on the quality and safety of its trains.
