Sky Mavis delivers first Web2 gaming IP to Ronin

Ronin, an EVM blockchain for gaming, has unveiled its groundbreaking collaboration with Ragnarok: Monster World, an innovative strategy game that combines tower defense and monster collecting elements. This partnership promises to mark a significant milestone for both companies by bringing the cherished Ragnarok Online universe to the blockchain gaming space.

Launched by Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity, which has grossed over $1.3 billion, Ronin is the only blockchain known to handle millions of daily users for a single game and has processed over $4 billion in NFT transactions.

Ragnarok, a transmedia intellectual property (IP) developed by Korean gaming powerhouse Gravity, boasts an impressive record of over 167 million downloads across 122 territories. Its journey from a widely read comic book series to a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has captivated audiences around the world. The upcoming Ragnarok: Monster World from Ronin marks the first foray of a Web2 gaming IP into the blockchain space, setting a precedent for future collaborations and signaling the network’s growing influence in the gaming industry.

Ragnarok: Monster World, scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2024, is the work of ZERO The studio’s integration into the Google Cloud Startup Program highlights its commitment to innovation and scalability.

With a team boasting experience with Web2 titles such as Blade for Kakao and Shot Online, ZERO The game invites players to tame and collect creatures known as Ragmons, engage in battles, and unlock rewards through player versus player (PvP) and player versus environment (PvE) features.

Sky Mavis CEO and co-founder Trung Nguyen noted the huge impact Ragnarok has had on Southeast Asian gaming culture. “Ragnarok holds a special place in the hearts of our core audience in Southeast Asia, including many of our team members who have grown up as passionate fans. We are committed to delivering IP that will transcend gaming culture through cutting-edge technology, and we can’t wait to see the Ronin effect in Monster World,” said Nguyen.

Ronin’s collaboration with Ragnarok highlights Ronin’s rapid rise since its 2021 release. Boasting approximately 17.6 million total wallet addresses, the platform continues to prioritize scalability with the imminent launch of zkEVM. By working with leading companies like Sky Mavis, Ronin aims to create a thriving ecosystem for blockchain games, provide custom distribution, and foster strong community engagement.
