Solana NFT Game Announces NYN Token Airdrop Plan

Just days after launching on the Epic Games Store, Solana blockchain-powered shooter Nyan Heroes has launched a “Play to Airdrop” campaign around the game’s initial launch, giving players the ability to earn token rewards upon the game’s launch. He announced his plan to do so.

Nyan Heroes plans to begin early access testing in February during an airdrop campaign that will reward players with NYN, the game’s native token. The early access trial will be available as a free PC game, and as reported in the post, Nyan Heroes NFT owners will be eligible for “additional airdrop rewards,” but it will obviously be monetized.

Developer 9 Lives Interactive says it will be holding several launch activities featuring Genesis NFT rewards in the coming weeks, potentially serving a wider user base with additional airdrop benefits while playing.

What is NYN?

NYN is the governance token for the Solana Network-based game Nyan Heroes and “an ecosystem token for accumulating value through distribution of market fees, mint fees, and studio revenue buybacks.” The game’s creators claim that the fixed supply of tokens allows for a deflationary model thanks to planned token buybacks over time.

The general release campaign will run until March, between early access testing and other related activities.

What is Cat Heroes?

Nyan Heroes is a cat hero shooter that has been compared to Blizzard’s popular online game Overwatch, albeit with a cat character piloting a giant mechanical suit. It was previously described as a battle royale shooter similar to Fortnite and Apex Legends, but it appears to have changed direction during development.

Unfortunately, growing anticipation for the impending airdrop may have prompted an attack on the game’s Discord server on Monday.

It appears that hackers have taken over servers and distributed malicious links that allow users to steal NFTs and other assets from their connected wallets. 9 Lives Interactive said users who lost their Nyan Heroes NFTs would be repaid using the team’s own reserves, pending on-chain confirmation of previous ownership.

“Knowing that there are several major catalysts on our roadmap, we discovered that this was likely a carefully planned attack,” Max Fu, founder of Nyan Heroes, wrote in an announcement post on Discord on Monday.

“We have spent the last few hours in a “situation room” internally with external security auditors to ensure that our organization’s files/data etc. have not been breached,” he added. “We are pleased to note that no breach occurred on the studio’s part and that everything appears to be confined to Discord, with a single Discord account being compromised.”
