Stock Market: Stock markets are likely to be closed on May 20 due to Lok Sabha elections.

With Mumbai scheduled to vote for the Lok Sabha elections on May 20, stock exchanges BSE and NSE are likely to declare it a holiday, as seen in the 2014 and 2019 polls. Local governments declare holidays on polling days under the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881.

However, there is still no official confirmation about the holiday from the stock exchange.

The Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra will be held in five phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13 and May 20, the Election Commission announced on Saturday. .

On May 20, voting will be held in the Lok Sabha seats of Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai North Central and Palghar.

The markets will also be closed on May 1 to commemorate Maharashtra Day. Before that, there are four other scheduled holidays – Dalal Street -Holi (March 25), Good Friday (March 2029), Ramzan Id (April 11) and Ram Navami (April 17).

The last week of March will be the shortest trading week of the year, with just three business days. In early January, the third week of January had only three trading days due to the Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony and Republic Day. Holi Market will be closed on Monday, March 25th. This market holiday begins on Saturday and Sunday, giving investors a three-day break. The fourth long weekend in March is Good Friday, celebrated on Friday 29 March.
