Stratum Reference Implementation Releases SRI 1.0.0 to Improve Bitcoin Mining

The Stratum Reference Implement (SRI) team has unveiled SRI 1.0.0, a new milestone in its journey to decentralize and optimize Bitcoin mining, according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. This latest release is now available for immediate testing and seamless integration.

Key features of SRI 1.0.0 include:

  • Miners can connect to SV2 pools without having to upgrade their existing SV1 firmware through a translation proxy or directly using an SV2 firmware device like BraiinsOS.
  • Miners have the flexibility to run Bitcoin nodes, configure templates, and declare them to SV2 pools.
  • Implementation of a pool fallback feature ensures continuity of mining activity even if the pool decides to censor transactions, encouraging the pool to prioritize miners’ interests.

This new version is the culmination of improvements to the Stratum V2 specification achieved through collaboration within the working group and rigorous testing with the interoperability suite to ensure seamless compatibility between Stratum V2 protocol implementations.

This release allows miners using SV1 or SV2 firmware to connect to SV2 pools directly or through a conversion proxy. Miners can construct block templates using a locally hosted declaration of work client and a patched version of a Bitcoin Core node, which then sends the template to a declaration of work server operated by an SV2 pool. Importantly, this update also allows independent third parties to run nodes and JDCs to extend operational capabilities.

The newly implemented pool fallback feature ensures that miners maintain mining activity by automatically switching to an alternative pool if a pool rejects the template. This mechanism acts as a strong incentive for pools to act in miners’ best interests, ensuring that miners’ hashing power remains secure and competitive.

SRI’s user-friendly pool setup and future enhancements make it an attractive option for miners and pools looking for an efficient mining experience. The project says it welcomes contributions and support from individuals and companies interested in providing grants to help accelerate development, research and innovation in Bitcoin mining technology.
