Streamr announces the launch of Testnet 2 for the decentralized Streamr Network 1.0 – paving the way for the next generation of data broadcasting

Zug, Switzerland, December 21, 2023, Chainwire

After the successful launch of Testnet 1, paving the way for the Streamr Network 1.0 milestone, Streamr is excited to announce the launch of Testnet 2! This second incentivized testnet, starting on December 21 and ending on January 8, 2024, will provide 1.5 million DATA tokens (worth approximately $104,000 as of December 21, 2024) for node operators to perform next-generation bootstrapping. Provides a reward pool of Decentralized data broadcasting network.

Key events and rewards:

  • Testnet 1 (Completed): December 5 – December 12 (Reward Pool: 1 Million DATA ($69,000))
  • Testnet 2: December 21 – January 8 (Reward Pool: 1.5 Million DATA ($104,000))
  • Testnet 3: January 15 – January 29 (Reward Pool: 2.5 Million DATA ($173,000))
  • Streamr 1.0 Official Release: February 2024

How to participate in Testnet 2

Similar to Testnet 1, to share DATA rewards, participants will need to download the latest version of a Streamr node and become an operator or delegate their DATA tokens to a trusted operator.

The operator’s nodes follow protocol rules to properly forward messages to other connected nodes that have good uptime and sufficient hardware resources to handle traffic from the available incentive streams. Delegators support these operations by providing liquidity in the form of DATA tokens.

Stream sponsorship is a smart contract that provides funds to operators (node runners) over time. The system mirrors the service level agreements (SLAs) of existing networks to ensure reliable data distribution. The amount of DATA tokens an operator holds in sponsorship determines the size of its stake in the token flow.

Testnet 2 Details

Testnet 2 is funded with 1.5 million DATA tokens ($104,000). These stream sponsorships will run until the end of Testnet 2, which ends on January 8, 2024. Node operator penalties will remain at the same low level as Testnet 1.

Next-gen use cases unlocked in 1.0

The 1.0 milestone marks the culmination of our 2017 roadmap and unlocks peer-to-peer market power between sponsors and operators, paying for distribution with DATA, the Streamr Network’s currency. This makes the network fully decentralized, production-ready, and lays the foundation for the team to explore some exciting new use cases.

Defin

With the 1.0 release, the Streamr network will be better positioned to improve the data broadcasting capabilities of the Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN). As DePIN moves from centralized data centers to a network of individual contributors, the secure, scalable, serverless design of the Streamr network gives DePIN the potential to align and provide a platform that helps progressively decentralize the technology stack. It shows.

Decentralized AI

Streamr also has the potential to serve as a neutral data layer, providing AI with reliable, tamper-proof access to real-time data streams. This is critical to ensuring transparency and safety of AI reliability, development, and AI operations. The Streamr network can be further deployed for communication and coordination between AI models. These models can collect and share real-time insights with each other to increase collective intelligence. There is much to explore, and with concerns about the future risks of AI, verifiable communication over neutral, decentralized networks like Streamr promises to contribute to the mainstream adoption of AI in everyday life.

Distributed video streaming

Privately (at least for now) Streams has been testing the scalability and reliability of its decentralized live video feed. Live video streaming using peer-to-peer protocols like Streamr can provide a route that doesn’t require the centralized intermediaries used to distribute content around the world today. The Streamr protocol allows consumers of live video feeds to become distribution pipelines for video feeds, creating a more efficient, greener, and scalable distribution mechanism.

Earlier this year, Streamr streamed the MapMetrics Bitcoin live feed directly from YouTube. The team promises to share more about this track in the coming weeks.

Getting Started with Testnet 2

Streamr invites users on this journey towards a fully decentralized data economy. Users can claim a stake of the remaining 5 million DATA tokens and prepare their nodes to become part of the future of decentralized real-time data.

For support, feedback, and updates, users can join the Streamr Discord community focused on the #testnet-general and #testnet-announcements channels.

Streamer Introduction

Streamr is building a real-time data protocol for the decentralized web. It includes a scalable, low-latency, secure peer-to-peer network for data broadcasting, delivery, and exchange. As part of its vision, Streamr has built The Hub, a dApp that champions open data to enable DePin, AI, and Web3 builders to decentralize their technology stack with real-time data flows. The Streamr project was started by real-time data veterans with a background in algorithmic trading and financial markets.
