Vitalik announces detailed roadmap for the new year

Ethereum has announced its 2024 roadmap focused on improving scalability, security, and sustainability.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced his next plans. social media On December 31, we outlined some key plans for the development of the platform.

Improved scalability

In 2022, Ethereum underwent a major change called ‘The Merge’, switching from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This transition is expected to reduce the platform’s energy consumption and lay the foundation for future improvements.

‘The Surge’, a key component of the Ethereum roadmap, aims to increase network scalability through data sharding. Ethereum seeks to solve one of the most pressing problems facing blockchain technology today by breaking the blockchain into smaller parts to enhance transaction processing capabilities and reduce costs.

This development is expected to bring Ethereum closer to achieving its goal of processing more than 100,000 transactions per second, as Buterin mentioned in a recent statement.

Network rationalization and future research

‘The Scourge’ and ‘The Verge’ focus on improving network security and user experience, respectively.

Scourge is designed to address potential security vulnerabilities and improve the robustness of the network, including issues caused by Miner Extractable Value (MEV) and liquidity pooling.

The Verge, on the other hand, aims to make Ethereum more accessible and efficient by streamlining the user experience and providing developers with improved tools.

The roadmap also includes ‘The Purge’ and ‘The Splurge’.

Purge involves removing old code to improve network efficiency and security.

Meanwhile, The Splurge represents an investment in the future of Ethereum, exploring new technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs and rollups and fostering innovation within the Ethereum ecosystem.

basic principles

Buterin emphasized that Ethereum must reconnect with its original cypherpunk vision, which prioritizes decentralized applications, privacy, and peer-to-peer communication.

This includes integration of rollups and zero-knowledge proofs to enable more private and censorship-resistant applications on the Ethereum network.

Ethereum’s 2024 roadmap reflects a comprehensive strategy to address current challenges and leverage new opportunities in the blockchain space. With a focus on scalability, security, and sustainability, and staying true to its fundamental principles, Ethereum is poised to strengthen its position as a leader in the digital currency ecosystem.
