Wormhole introduces support for the Ethereum L2 Network X Layer.

Introduction to X Layers

Wormhole announced the integration of X Layer, the Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network, into its cross-chain interoperability platform. According to Wormhole,

How X Layers Work

The X layer performs a validity rollup function to process off-chain transactions and publish data to Ethereum Layer 1 (L1). The status is confirmed by submitting a zero-knowledge proof verified through a smart contract to L1. X Layer’s zkEVM architecture is divided into two main components:

  • Zero-knowledge proof (ZKP): This technology verifies batch transactions through concise proofs, ensuring computational reliability and enabling scalability.
  • Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM): EVM is a smart contract execution environment within the Ethereum ecosystem that enables smart contract execution and functions as a global computing network. EVM calculations are proven in ZK and verified on-chain.

Advantages of X Layer

Developers and users looking for the benefits of Ethereum and EVM with lower costs and higher scalability will find X Layer attractive. The zkEVM architecture supports thousands of transactions per second (TPS) while maintaining shared security with Ethereum L1. Key benefits include:

  • Scalability and Flexibility: As EVM Validium, X Layer provides scalability and flexibility related to data availability.
  • low fees:X layer reduces costs by avoiding high gas fees for storing transactions in L1.
  • ZK-based scalability: Thanks to the ZK validation proof, the network is not limited by the amount of transaction data that can be posted on Ethereum.
  • Ethereum Security: X Layer inherits Ethereum’s security and protects user funds with the highest security guarantees.
  • unified liquidity: Seamless asset transfer and ZK-based interoperability across CDK-based chains within the Polygon ecosystem.
  • Almost instantaneous finality: Achieve near-instant finality and strong security with cryptographically guaranteed transaction integrity.
  • Provided by OKX: Seamlessly integrates with OKX products, providing an all-in-one Web3 gateway and access to 50 million users in the OKX ecosystem.
  • Gateway to Web3: Users can enter the Web3 world through OKX Wallet, built with compact infrastructure modules to support innovative dApps.

Asset transfer through X layer

Users holding assets on Wormhole’s 30+ connected blockchains can transfer them to and from the X Layer using the Portal Bridge. Here are the steps to do this:

  1. Visit Portal Bridge.
  2. Connect your wallet.
  3. Select layer X as the source or destination chain for your transaction.
  4. Complete the transfer process.

Application integration

Developers interested in transferring tokens to and from the X layer can do so with just three lines of code through Wormhole Connect. This tool allows developers to integrate wrapped native token transfers directly into their application UI, enabling seamless connectivity across Wormhole’s 30+ connected blockchains, protected by Wormhole Guardians.
