Deal of the Week: January 15 – January 19, 2024
January 19, 2024
I carried AMD & TEAM with me on the weekends.
AMD It surged 8.3% on Tuesday and continued to rise throughout the week. Thursday morning I had a gap day so I tried to sleep in but I was still jet lag so I woke up and saw some movement. I decided to close the position for several reasons:
- In fact, it has extended beyond the upper Bollinger Band and the overbought stochastic level.
- The reason for the transfer was not directly related to AMD, but to sympathize with TSM’s good performance.
- AMD is expected to turn a profit soon.
Here’s the updated chart:
SMCI
These transactions can be categorized as follows: It’s better to be lucky than good! I saw SMCI on the Non-ADX 1,2,3,4 pullback scan on the night of the 17th. I placed a standard buy limit order and went to bed. SMCI exceeded my limit but then backed off and filled up. Here is the first part of your luck: keeps falling I got to within $1 of my stop loss. Before splashing out a bit:
The second piece of luck was that SMCI pre-released its earnings after the close. When I woke up in the morning and checked my account, I saw the news and there was a huge surge in after-hours trading. So on Friday morning there was a gap and it continued to rise. It’s up 37% as I type this! This time, I happened to wake up in the middle of the night (Australian time) and saw a huge profit (~5R). I immediately sold half my shares.
So I bought SMCI at 322.27, sold half of it 91 points higher at 413.08, and still own the other half. It is an increase of 5.75R (~5.4%) in two days. Let’s see what happens whenever you sell the other half of your shares.
So AMD & SMCI (and TEAM, which I still have) gave me It gained 8.55% for the week, bringing its YTD return to 14.5%.
So we joked that we should continue our vacation. I just hope this pace continues throughout the year. I know it won’t happen, but you can dream…
