(Reuters) – Canadian artificial intelligence startup Cohere is opening an office in New York City and seeking to secure talent and customers there, the company told Reuters.
The startup, which develops a foundational model to compete with OpenAI and focuses on servicing enterprise customers, will house about 30 employees at its Meatpacking District office, home to major technology companies such as Google (NASDAQ:) .
The company, backed by Nvidia (NASDAQ:), Oracle (NYSE:) and Salesforce (NYSE:), is in talks to raise more than $500 million in a new funding round, sources previously told Reuters.
Cohere said the new office will help it tap into New York’s talent pool and support its enterprise AI adoption work with clients such as McKinsey.
“New York is a very important talent market for us, and having a solid foundation helps us connect directly with the city’s many customers and partners,” said Aidan Gomez, co-founder and CEO of Cohere.
