LayerZero identifies over 800,000 addresses in the sybil self-reporting phase.

LayerZero Labs has officially announced the end of the Sybil self-reporting phase of its solution to address Sybil activity, also known as “airdrop farming,” on the X platform.

According to LayerZero, addresses that meet the criteria will receive 15% of the expected token allocation, with the remaining 85% redistributed to eligible users. Upon review, a total of 803,093 addresses were identified as potential Sybil addresses, which would not receive a total token allocation.

Initially, the team identified over 2 million addresses as potential Sybils, but later refined the criteria to achieve more accurate classifications to minimize false identifications.

The full list of addresses, including self-reported addresses and addresses identified through initial investigations by LayerZero, Chaos Labs, and Nansen, has been made available to the public.

On May 3, the creator of the cross-chain communication protocol introduced a self-reporting mechanism, offering 15% of the planned token allocation to Sybil users for their honesty within a defined 14-day period.

In the However, as the calculations are refined, addresses may be removed from the Sybil list and should not be considered final until the final report is published.

The Sybil bounty hunting process begins today, May 18th at 2:00 UTC and continues until May 31st at 23:59 UTC. Participants must report at least 20 addresses in a clear manner to be eligible to receive a reward of 10% of Sybil’s intended token allocation. All rewards will go to the first eligible reporter at that address.

The team is perfecting the method, but the initial list will not change during a bounty hunt. Bounty hunters can continue their work without worrying about their initial list. At the end of the bounty hunt, a final, authoritative list is shared.

Sybil Farming refers to the practice of creating multiple fake accounts to unfairly obtain tokens or rewards. The Sybil analysis follows the first snapshot from May 1st regarding potential airdrop distribution to community members.

Airdrops are widely used in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols to attract more interest by rewarding early users with newly minted cryptocurrencies.
