Litecoin Foundation and Atari Power Up.
Atari, one of the most recognizable names in the video game industry behind classic games such as Asteroids, Breakout, and Centipede, today announced a partnership with Litecoin Foundation, a Singapore-based non-profit organization. Encourage the use of Litecoin.
The partnership will add Litecoin as a payment method for interacting with the Atari ecosystem. We know that Atari’s VCS gaming and streaming console (which is based on a Linux-based OS and shares the same name as the 1977 video computer system) can be purchased with Litecoin at a discounted price, but we don’t have any details on what exactly this means. It hasn’t been released yet. You can pre-order it through the Atari website. Likewise, a portion of each sale will also be given through the Litecoin Foundation, which will go directly to supporting their efforts.
Commenting on the announcement, Charlie Lee, Executive Director of the Foundation, said:
“Many of us remember growing up and playing games on Atari”… From Atari tokens. The Litecoin Foundation is excited to see the potential this partnership can have not only for Litecoin and cryptocurrency, but also for the gaming industry and Atari’s lifelong fans.”
Regarding future collaborations, Lee shared some additional insights:
“We will definitely talk about other ways we can work together in the future. “It’s probably like using LTC in games.” “We want to sell joint merchandise, like t-shirts with Litecoin and Atari on them.”
Atari is creating its own digital assets that work in much the same way as the platform’s casino chips. It appears to be intended as a digital casino chip for the Atari ecosystem. It’s meant to replicate the same effect of putting a quarter into an actual 80s arcade machine, probably most associated with Atari. So it might not be too far away to see Litecoin included. Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said in his announcement:
“Litecoin’s ease of use and low transaction costs makes it perfect for use with Atari tokens and other projects.”
