Litecoin’s oldest mining pool celebrates its 8th birthday.

Litecoin’s oldest pool, LitecoinPool.org, which has been mining Litecoin since October 21, 2011, celebrated its 8th birthday earlier this month. Pool founder and operator ‘Fuller’ posted the following message on the site to commemorate the event:

“Today we celebrate LitecoinPool.org’s 8th birthday! As some of you may remember, the pool was officially launched on November 5, 2011, just three weeks after the Litecoin network went live (by the way: Happy 8th birthday Litecoin!). Over the past year, our miners have calculated an astronomical number of 1021 hashes. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who enjoys (or enjoys) mining with us! Next year and the future of Litecoin are here!”

LitecoinPool (LP) has played an important role in growing and supporting the Litecoin network. Under Pooler’s leadership, the site thrived and became so popular that at several points it had to be closed to new registrations to avoid the possibility of a 51% attack. Currently LP is the second largest pool, accounting for 17.8% of the network hashrate of 31.1TH/s.

During its eight years of operation, LP attracted over 42,000 miners to its shores and mined 194,028 blocks, yielding over 7,000,000 pounds, worth an astonishing $420,000,000 at today’s prices. To date, LP has performed 2,164,919,119 TH worth of work.

“LitecoinPool.org was started shortly after Pooler(…) created Litecoin. From the beginning, the pool used ad hoc software. Pooler wrote the front-end from scratch with security and efficiency in mind, and the mining back-end was a heavily modified version of the original Jeff Garzik’s push-pull. After two weeks of intensive testing, the pool was released to the public on November 5, 2011, becoming the first PPS pool for Litecoin.”

Despite being less public than other developers, Fuller has remained steadfast in his commitment to the Litecoin project as part of the core development team, writing and contributing code and maintaining other infrastructure such as Electrum-LTC along with LPs.

Happy Birthday Litecoin Pool 🥳
