The Pennsylvania property tax and rent refund deadline is December 31.

Eligible residents who have not yet applied for property tax and rent refunds this year should do so because the Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Refund Program deadline is fast approaching. Seniors and people with disabilities have until December 31 to apply for a refund for property taxes and rent paid in 2022.

Who can apply for PTRR?

The original deadline for the Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Refund (PTRR) program was June 30, but has been extended to December 31.

“So far this year, more than 50,000 rebate applicants have already submitted their applications online using myPATH.” Extends deadlines for Pennsylvania property tax and rent rebate programs “to allow other eligible applicants to receive the following benefits:” Take advantage of myPATH in the coming months as the program deadline has been extended for the remainder of the year,” Acting Revenue Secretary Pat Browne said in June.

Last month, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue issued a reminder to residents to apply for the Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program before the year-end deadline. DoR said more than 80,000 applicants have already applied to the PTRR program and that “all Pennsylvanians who are eligible for this program are encouraged to apply online through myPATH.”

Eligible Pennsylvania residents age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and disabled individuals age 18 and older can apply for a refund for property taxes and rent paid in 2022.

How to Apply Before the Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Refund Deadline

Applicants must visit mypath.pa.gov to submit their application electronically. Those who apply online will immediately receive confirmation that their application has been successfully completed.

Residents do not need an account with myPATH to apply for PTRR. Online applicants also have access to automated calculators and other useful features to help complete the application process.

Those wishing to apply offline can download the application form here. However, paper applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2023 to receive the rebate. Applicants (both online and offline) must provide required documentation for property taxes or rent paid in 2022.

Free assistance with completing the application is available at many locations throughout the state, including your state legislator’s office, local senior agencies, senior centers, and Department of Revenue regional offices.

This is an annual refund based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid each year, so residents must reapply each year. Applying for PTRR is free.

Applicants do not need to take any further action after submitting their application. They can use “Where’s My Rebate?” This is a tool to check the status of your application. Applicants will need their Social Security number, claim year, and date of birth to use “Where’s My Refund?” equipment.
